grate | chef'n collaboration | fall 2007

This was a sponsored project with the Seattle-based company Chef'n. The focus was to design an innovative kitchen product to fit with their existing brand identity, while also appealing to the masses, as a way to expand their image.
I chose to focus on cheese graters, as I've had many disappointing experiences trying to use them. The final design, known as Grate, may be used as a regular handheld grater or propped up for more leverage and easier grating. There are interchangeable faces for numerous grating applications from zesting to slicing. When done, everything snaps together in a sleek, compact form that stores easily in a drawer or hung on the wall, preventing separate pieces from becoming lost. Designed for manufacturing, all proposed materials are recycleable, non-toxic, and produced with the most efficient and minimal process. .......................
